Why is it So Important to Read Supplement Ingredient Labels?

A nutrient-dense diet that helps fuel your body to operate at its most optimal level is the best way to get the vitamins and minerals that you need. But even with the best diets, supplements can sometimes be necessary to fill vitamin, mineral and other nutrient gaps.

At CBDistillery, we are passionate about using safe, clean and minimal ingredients, and we think that this should be top of mind for every supplement company that is selling products meant to nourish and bolster your health and wellness.

Unfortunately, that is not always the case.

Proper care and dedication are not always put into ingredient sourcing and testing, and consumers can end up taking a supplement that may be more harmful than helpful in the long-run due to poor quality ingredients.

The FDA doesn't regulate supplements as strictly as they do drugs, so the responsibility of doing diligent research falls on the consumer. This means that there's no guarantee that a supplement is produced according to specified quality standards or that it remains consistent from batch to batch.

We are proud to say that our hemp-derived CBD is always third party tested for heavy metals, pesticides and all the other bad actors that you do not want to be consuming every day. Third party testing also allows us to verify that the correct levels of CBD are present in our products. All our products have a QR code on the label, where you simply can scan with your phone, and get access to your specific batch results! Batch consistency, and transparency are at the forefront of our operation.

I recommend checking carefully for ingredients like fillers, preservatives, and additives, all of which will be listed on the label. If they are present, I would pass on that supplement. A supplement should be full of the good, and none of the bad! Also keep an eye out for supplements that contain artificial colors, sweeteners, or flavorings.

Checking certain certifications can also be helpful when choosing which supplements to invest your money in. One that we think is meaningful is the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification, which CBDistillery has held for the last six years.

GMP is a system for ensuring that products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards. It is designed to minimize the risks involved in any pharmaceutical production that cannot be eliminated through testing the final product. GMP covers all aspects of production from the starting materials, premises, and equipment to the training and personal hygiene of staff.

With over 100,000 dietary supplements now gracing our shelves, it can be confusing to navigate the space and make decisions around what supplement is the most safe and will serve your personal needs the best. We hope that this article made it a little easier, and if you have any questions, send us a DM on Instagram (@CBDistillery) and I will be sure to personally answer!
