What is CBD?

A Therapeutic Compound from Hemp

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a non-psychoactive, naturally occurring compound in cannabis plants which has been steadily gaining a lot of attention due to its many potential health and wellness benefits. This compound is extracted from the hemp and marijuana plants, which are both members of the cannabis family.

Hemp contains more CBD by weight than THC, while marijuana contains more THC than CBD. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the naturally occurring compound in cannabis plants and, unlike CBD, is the compound responsible for creating a “high” sensation.

There are three types of hemp extract: full spectrum, broad spectrum, and CBD isolate. Let’s break it down.

Full Spectrum
Full Spectrum
A Full Plant Extract
A full plant extract from hemp that contains all naturally occurring, active hemp-derived cannabinoids. These include CBD, omega oils, plant terpenes, minor cannabinoids and <0.3% THC. These compounds all work together to multiply the potential health benefits, a phenomenon called the Entourage Effect.
Broad Spectrum
Broad Spectrum
THC Removed
These CBD products are processed further to remove trace amounts of THC. These products are third-party tested to ensure THC levels are non-detectable (<0.01%). All other minor cannabinoids and plant compounds remain and work together in the Entourage Effect.
Isolate CBD
Isolate CBD
Pure CBD
A full spectrum extract that has all molecules other than CBD removed, leaving only an anhydrous white powder that is extremely pure and is THC-free.

How Does CBD Work?

How Does CBD Work?

By Interacting With Your Body’s ECS

Your endocannabinoid system, or ECS, is the network of receptors and messengers that regulate the many vital processes in your body, such as:

  • Pain*
  • Mild Stress
  • Inflammation*
  • Motor Control
  • Nausea
  • Memory
  • Appetite
  • Mood
  • Immune Function

The messengers manufactured by your body are made as needed and broken down quickly by enzymes. When your body cannot produce enough messengers (neurotransmitters) on its own, the communication system can fail.

CBD works by mimicking the messengers and influencing the receptors of the endocannabinoid system. By supporting the functions of this regulatory system, CBD has the potential to provide numerous health and wellness benefits.
