Beyond the key findings from our 2022 relaxation study, participants also offered some interesting and useful insights into the types of customers who are using the product to support their wellness; when, why and how they’re consuming it; and what part it plays in their relaxation routines.
More than half of participants in the Pathfinder study (58%) are parents, and 73% of participants were cohabiting (married or living as married). Of those respondents who are parents, the vast majority had two children. Data below further supports the implication that many Unwind users are parents who begin their nightly relaxation routine by taking the gummies around the time their children go to bed.
Almost three quarters (74%) of respondents lived an active lifestyle as opposed to retired, lending extra credence to leading reasons for taking the product (work demands/stresses; demands of family life; preparation for tomorrow).
The Pathfinder study revealed that 53% of respondents use beer, wine or another type of alcohol when offered a multiple-response question regarding their nightly unwinding routine. Similarly, 55% of participants surveyed said they used CBD products to relax at the end of the day, lending strength to the notion that people are migrating towards relaxation aids that a) are more natural and b) don’t leave users groggy or hungover the following day.
More than two in five (44%) participants reported sometimes feeling groggy or hangover-like symptoms the next day when using products other than Unwind gummies in their relaxation routines.
“Movie or show” (67%) and “Read” (55%) were other common inclusions in participants’ relaxation routines, both of which pair well with the Unwind gummies and offer extra inspiration when it comes to creating marketing content.
Elsewhere, the most commonly reported type of “high” by participants was “Relaxed” (89%), followed by “Euphoric” (39%) and “Amused” (23%) in a multiple-response question. This supports data expanded upon below that implies customers are purchasing Unwind gummies not to get high but to relax and unwind at the end of the day.
Most respondents reported using the Unwind gummies between 7 and 9 p.m. This goes to support the inference that users, many of whom we’ve already established are parents, are taking the gummies around the time they put their children to bed so they can wind down for the rest of the evening. Notably, only 5% of survey participants said they purchased the product because they can’t buy CBD or THC due to legalities in their state, and only 12% were “looking for a high.” From this it can be inferred that customers are purchasing Unwind primarily to unwind and relax rather than a general desire for recreational THC products.
More than half of participants said they had either no nightly relaxation routine or a routine they don’t partake in on a regular basis. More than three in five (61%) respondents said the quality of their current wind-down routine was neutral to very unsatisfying. Going further, participants’ reasons for purchase are also informative. More than half (58%) of respondents bought the Unwind gummies specifically to help them relax, and a further 17% did so because they “love CBDistillery products,” supporting the early-adopter profile mentioned earlier.
Sound sleep (69.56%), body relaxation (56.83%) and mental relaxation (57.56%) were the three dominant side effects reported by participants across the course of the study, delivering strong evidence to support the intended benefits of the product.
The vast majority of participants (89%) said they used Unwind gummies once per day, and 81 percent of respondents were satisfied with using up to one gummy per day. Only 19% of those surveyed said they consumed more than one gummy per day.
